Empanadas

Jaden and Kenedi read a story from Mexico. In the story the family made Empanadas. After reading the story we dug up a recipe and made Empanadas together. They were not only fun to make, but very delicious. These were made with sweet potato filling. We even grew the sweet potatoes in our garden!

Mask and Mime

9 Kenedi and Jaden learned about the use of masks in theater and dance today. They each made a happy face and a sad face and danced what they were "feeling". We laughed more than cried however...especially as Jaden would giggle so much it was hard to think of him as "sad" on the "sad" songs.

Plain Aire Rain Art

Friday is our Art day. We have been doing Plain Aire art meaning we take our art outside. It was raining today and so we tried something new. We took paint and blobbed it onto our picutures, then let the rain soak them into a impressionistic picture. Jaden had the most fun and needed a rain shower himself!
Jaden painting picture number 3! He really enjoyed this project.

The rain stopped just as Kenedi needed its magic, so she borrowed some water droplets from the faucet.

Here's one of our Rain paintings called "The Beach"! This was SOO fun! Plus we learned to never let the weather put a kink in our day...usually it just makes it more fun! And thus we present to you Plain Aire Rain Art.

Wonderworks

What a treat it was to spend a homeschooling day at Wonderworks in Severveille! Jaden calls this place the "broken house". At first he was quite nervous about the whole idea and was afraid it would fall down on him. But after some coaxing he went inside and LOVED it!

Jordin and Jaxin were able to tandem this bike to pedal in a 360 degree arc at very intense speeds. It was fun to watch their eyes and white faces when they finished the first run.
Here we are in the "quake" room getting ready to experience an earthquake at lunchtime. Jaden and Kenedi laughed as we were tossed to and fro.

Jordin enjoyed the bubble room. She was able to get the bubbles to disattach from the hoop and float through the air. It was really neat to watch.
Jaden loved the space area and played in the astronaut suit and rocket for hours.
Kenedi braved the bed of nails...and didn't move a muscle!
Jaxin scaled the huge rock wall. It was quite a test of perserverance for her...but she made it to the top and rang the little bell with a big tired smile.

We toured the Bristol Caverns today! It is a spectacular underground wonderland. We were especially excited about the stream that ran underground...it looked so clear and inviting and even boasts fish! The Native Americans in this region used to use these caverns to escape from settlers chasing them down. The settlers could not figure out how the Indians simply disappeared from sight. ;0)

Rocket Man

Jaden brought home a rocket book from the library. He was FASCINATED by it and so we had to make a rocket. He flies all over the house now, zooming off the couch, and yelling, "blast off!!" He even stops by the moon to get me some "moon ice cream". He is quite sure that that is what the moon is made of! ;0)
